  • 4 chicken drumsticks, skinless
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce (or tamari for gluten-free)
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch

→ Vegetables

  • 2 large carrots, peeled and julienned (cut into thin strips)
  • 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1-inch piece ginger, minced

→ Sauce

  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce (or tamari)
  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce (optional, or substitute with hoisin sauce)
  • 1 tablespoon honey or brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • ¼ cup water or chicken broth

→ For Cooking

  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil (or sesame oil for extra flavor)
  • 1 teaspoon sesame seeds (for garnish, optional)
  • 2 green onions, chopped (for garnish, optional)

Instructions

Step 01

  • Marinate the drumsticks: In a bowl, mix drumsticks with 1 tablespoon soy sauce and cornstarch. Let sit for 10 minutes while you prep the vegetables.

Step 02

  • Heat 1 tablespoon oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the drumsticks and cook for 6-8 minutes, turning occasionally, until golden brown on all sides. Remove and set aside.

Step 03

  • In the same skillet, add the remaining 1 tablespoon oil. Sauté garlic and ginger for 30 seconds until fragrant. Add onions and carrots, and stir-fry for 3-4 minutes until slightly softened.

Step 04

  • Return the drumsticks to the skillet. Pour in the sauce mixture (soy sauce, oyster sauce, honey, sesame oil, and water). Stir well to coat everything evenly.

Step 05

  • Cover and simmer for 8-10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the drumsticks are fully cooked and the sauce has thickened.

Step 06

  • Garnish with sesame seeds and green onions. Serve hot with steamed rice or noodles.

Notes

  • For extra spice, add a pinch of red chili flakes or a drizzle of sriracha.
  • Substitute chicken drumsticks with chicken thighs or tofu for a vegetarian version.
  • Adjust sauce sweetness or saltiness to taste.
